Teaching history to younger Americans is important. Although many Republicans would prefer to eliminate the retelling of certain events Americans are not proud of; and atrocities committed by other nations; I believe we learn far more from our mistakes than our successes. The truth about the fact the evil exists is more important than all the tales about great men and women taught in our schools and universities. The truth about the Holocaust, Slavery, and other horrific events must never be forgotten.
Today the world is concerned about the spread of the ‘coronavirus.’ Donald Trump and his circle of sinners, a.k.a. the Republican Party are not deeply concerned. The 2020 election is more important than the lives of the American people.
When Trump was first asked about the dangers posed by the coronavirus he said, ‘when warmer weather arrives it will end.’ Really! I can’t make this shit up.
If you read history, you will learn that another president virtually ignored the danger of a pandemic in 1918. The Spanish Flu killed an estimated 670,000 Americans, when our country’s population was just 107 million. The president was Woodrow Wilson.
A couple of days ago Trump gave the responsibility of leading the fight to protect our nation’s people from the virus to Mike Pence. As the Governor of Indiana Pence was heavily criticized for his failure to respond adequately to the growth of HIV in his state.
This is especially interesting when a tweet from 2014 “thumbed” by Trump was discovered. In the text Trump attacked President Obama for appointing a “totally unqualified man” to lead the fight against the Ebola Virus.
Trump’s initial request was for 1.5 billion dollars to fight the spread of the virus. After criticism from both parties he increased it to 2.5 billion and rescinded his plan to steal part of the money from research into protecting Americans from Ebola. Most legislators believe that the number should be between six and eight billion dollars.
We all know that the only part of the coronavirus which worries Trump is that is causing a crash on Wall Street. He has tied his presidency to its success or failure, although the Market is not an indicator of our nation’s overall economy.
Finally, Trump is the only person in the world who believes he is intelligent. He has proven to everyone that he is mentally incompetent and unfit to lead America.
