“When somebody’s president of the United States, the authority is total.”
Let’s look back to January 20, 2017. At one of the smallest inaugurations in history, Donald John Trump swore on a bible to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” Apparently, he has never read our nation’s most sacred document, or he has chosen to violate his oath.
The first line of this article is a complete falsehood from your illegitimate president. Read the 10th amendment, the final entry in the Bill of Rights, and decide for yourself what it means.
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Constitutional scholars agree that this is a guarantee to each individual state that the federal government may not take control of matters which belong to the governing bodies of those states. In other words, if Trump makes another foolish mistake and allows federal businesses to reopen on May 1st, the governors of each state can keep private businesses closed until they decide it is safe to end the “stay at home” rule.
Over the weekend, governors from several states video-conferenced to discuss when the order to self-quarantine might end. Trump was livid because he apparently cannot read and has not attempted to read and understand the Bill of Rights. How dare these men and women refuse to accept his fascist demands?
The Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, has been rightfully praised for his efforts to stem the spread of this pandemic. He has displayed the type of leadership your nation’s illegitimate president has failed to offer 330 million Americans.
“We don’t have a king. We have an elected president,” Cuomo said during an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett. “The Constitution clearly says the powers that are not specifically listed for the federal government are reserved for the states, and the bounds between federal and state authority are central to the Constitution — one of the great balances of power.”
Here in the ‘Silver State,’ we are fortunate to have a compassionate and wise governor. Steve Sisolak signed a “stay at home order” as the coronavirus began to spread. This meant shutting down all of our state’s extremely profitable casinos. Las Vegas generates more revenue in a month than many state’s do in a year.
Lastly, in blue states governors placed the welfare of their people first. Sadly, this was not a standard in red states. Lives could have been saved, but Trump and corporate profits were the number one priority of these incompetent state leaders.
