Very American, and Unbeatable in November: Michelle Obama?

Michelle Obama

Other than the battle between the scientific and healthcare community and Trump’s cult, otherwise known is intelligence vs stupidity, there is a growing story which would be on the front page of every newspaper and every online publication today. For liberal Americans such as myself, it is only a dream, but once in a while dreams come true.

A growing group of Democrats are encouraging Michelle Obama to accept the nomination of vice-president.

Let’s look at the possibilities. Joe Biden’s presidency is questionable. He has a great deal of baggage over his decades of service in Washington. Although he would be a far, far better president than the orange bully in the White House today, I doubt that he will ever create the excitement which would sweep him into office in November. His age, his record with women’s rights, and his relationship with minorities are average at best. He desperately needs a vice-presidential candidate who is female and younger to help him win votes in red and swing states.

Personally, I believe that both Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren would fill most of his needs. However, Michelle Obama would put him in a position to soundly defeat Trump on November 3rd.

The only person more popular between 2009 and 2017 than President Obama was the First Lady. Her intelligence, sincerity, and charisma charmed men and women around the world. In my lifetime, through 12 presidents, she is the only woman who matched and occasionally surpassed the respect and admiration of her husband. Without question they were the most impressive couple to ever live in the White House.

Biden claimed that he will select a woman as his vice-president. He is in the process and offered the following information.

“In terms of who to pick, we’re just beginning the process,” Biden told KDKA. “We’ll shortly name the committee to review this and begin to look through the backgrounds of the various potential nominees. And that’s just getting underway.”

However, when asked about the possibility of Mrs. Obama as his running mate, his response can only be described as joyful.

“I’d take her in a heartbeat,” Biden said on Monday via Zoom. “She’s brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman.”

We must be totally honest about what is important in this election. Trump cannot, must not win reelection. He is destroying America, and is totally unqualified to lead our nation. However, none of the women Biden appears to be considering have the support of every demographic. Michelle Obama would.

Women, minorities, working class Americans, educators, environmentalists, the LGBTQ community, and younger Americans would have a reason to vote on November 3rd.

The only problem is Michelle Obama. For the last three years Democrats have suggested that she should be a candidate in 2020. She continues to claim that she is not interested in a political career. I respect her feelings and her intellect; politics is an ugly world, and she is an enormously respected woman, unlike any I have ever experienced in my 73 years as a political junky.

Throughout American history, only one other First Lady displayed the intellect and love of country comparable to that of Michelle Obama: her name is Eleanor Roosevelt.

Ms. Roosevelt has been the woman I admired most in our nation’s history, prior to President Obama’s presidency.

Biden describes his choice as based on today’s America; the fact that women continue to dominate the population, and millennials are the largest demographic. Younger Americans tend to be less racist and see women as equals.

“I’ll commit to that be a woman because it is very important that my administration look like the public, look like the nation. And there will be, committed that there will be a woman of color on the Supreme Court, doesn’t mean there won’t be a vice president, as well,” Biden said.
