The Failings of One Republican Governor

Coronavirus (2)

Although I am using the failures of one Republican governor; a devoted Trump supporter; this story applies to several others, including Greg Abbott, Brian Kemp, and Tate Reeves. I chose Ron DeSantis of Florida because he is another tool of a mentally incompetent, fascist, and illegitimate president, Donald John Trump.

DeSantis has priorities. His first priority is not the people of Florida, it is pleasing Trump. If the orange bully says “jump,” DeSantis responds, “how high.”

He has been willing to ignore the health and safety of Florida’s citizens, many of whom are senior citizens, by following Trump’s mishandling of the current pandemic. He refused to issue ‘stay at home orders,’ suggest the wearing of masks, or close the state’s beaches as the threat of Covid-19 spread rapidly across the United States.

Ten states are experiencing a ‘spike’ in their number of cases. Health experts are expressing their fear that Florida will become the epicenter for both the number of cases and deaths from the coronavirus.

Coronavirus

Florida has “all the markings of the next large epicenter of coronavirus transmission,” and risks being the “worst it has ever been,” according to Wednesday’s projections from a model by scientists at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.

“The potential for the virus to take off there is very, very nerve-racking and could have catastrophic consequences” because of the state’s aging population and the prevalence of nursing homes and retirement communities, Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, director of the division of infectious diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, told CNN on Thursday.

What does DeSantis think about these fears? I’ll answer for him. He will echo Trump’s most recent lie, that “the coronavirus is going away.”

The other states who are expected to see an increase in cases are Alabama, Arizona, California, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina and Texas. All are seeing an increase in recent seven-day averages.

A personal note: I live in Northern Nevada. I was proud when our Democratic Governor, Steve Sisolak, displayed great courage by closing all of our state’s casinos. Las Vegas normally experiences billions of dollars of revenue each month. Today I am disappointed. Although ‘social distancing’ rules are in effect, as Sisolak is allowing their reopening, people from all over the world will be in the ‘Silver State,’ and the danger of escalating the pandemic is very real.

According to health experts, Covid-19 has not peaked, and reopening businesses which result in close contact with others is unwise. Maybe a month from now I would feel more confident; but not today.

Let’s be completely honest; only independent writers like me will offer the complete truth. The economic damage resulting from Covid-19 has been done. The focus should be on American families; helping them save their homes, and providing relief until the danger from this pandemic is in steep decline. Sadly, our government rarely places people before profits.

There’s a lot of discussion about judicial reform in America today, and that makes me very happy. This should have begun 244 years ago. However, I believe that our federal government must be reformed if our nation is to survive.

The policies of Moscow Mitch McConnell created a dysfunctional government. More than 350 much-needed bills are gathering dust on the Senate Majority Leader’s desk. Some of these bill date back to early 2017. Although they were passed by the House, Moscow Mitch has refused to allow a vote on the floor of the senate.

Moscow Mitch is the poster boy for term limits.

Secondly, if the Electoral College did not exist, and the people were allowed to choose their president, a Democrat, Hillary Clinton, would be living in the White House today, and would have been since 1993.

Time for real change.
