I would like to begin with the responsibilities of a president. Every four years the people elect a man or woman who will lead their nation forward, and protect it from its enemies. He or she is tasked with ensuring that our nation is prepared for any and all upcoming dangers which face it internationally and domestically.
Every president has the opportunity to amass the tools necessary to perform the job for which he or she was elected. These ‘tools’ come from his or her cabinet, and other close advisers serving in the West Wing. Most presidents select the most experienced and talented men and women in their field. Every president in our past realized that they are incapable of knowing everything about every area of governance and sought wisdom from the finest men and women available in various fields. This is not the way Donald John Trump views his illegitimate presidency. Not a single member of his staff is qualified for the positions they hold.
Another tool given to each president is critical and called the “President’s Daily Brief.” This service for our presidents began with the presidency of John F. Kennedy, and was originally called the “President’s Intelligence Check List.” While the president sleeps, our nation’s security agencies are composing information necessary to inform the leader of our country about current issues and possible situations requiring his or her attention in the future. Since JFK’s presidency, the PDB has been waiting for the current president when he leaves the private residency and arrives in the Oval Office.
Here’s where we have a problem today. Trump either refuses to read or he is incapable of comprehending the written word. According to the White House staff, when he arrives in the Oval Office, rarely before eleven in the morning, he ignores the PDB, and turns the television to Fox Noise to “learn everything he needs to know.”
The headlines for the last few days have been about a claim by the CIA that Russia has been offering a bounty to the Taliban in Afghanistan for the deaths of American and British soldiers. Trump first claimed that he had not been informed and later that the information was not supported and therefore not included in the PDB. Reports today claim that this allegation was first reported in the PDB in March of 2019. The latest account of an effort to inform your illegitimate president was on February 27th of this year.
“Moreover, a description of the intelligence assessment that the Russian unit had carried out the bounties plot was also seen as serious and solid enough to disseminate more broadly across the intelligence community in a May 4 article in the C.I.A.’s World Intelligence Review, a classified compendium commonly referred to as The Wire,” the Times reported.
We know that the British government was informed of the situation, and it is therefore unbelievable that Trump was not fully informed as well.
The truth is that either situation is unforgivable. Trump must insist that he is aware of every situation in our country and around the world or he becomes a “movable stature,” and not our nation’s leader. He has failed to perform his duties, and his actions prove that golf and partying at Mar-a-Lago are his priorities.
